Post subject:  Actress sets up website to help save whales

Just found this...

Heroes star Hayden Panettiere has set up a new charity in a bid to help fund those trying to save threatened whales off the coast of Japan. The heroic actress joined protestors in the water late last year but couldn't stop fishermen bludgeoning sealife. Panettiere was caught on camera sobbing about the loss of life she desperately tried to save, while defending herself from angry fisherfolk's harpoons. And now the actress is using her fame and fashion sense to raise cash for the campaign to save the whales. She has launched website, where she'll sell off items from her wardrobe. All proceeds will go to the Save the Whales Again campaign.

Taken from the website.

And here's the website Hayden set up..

I read about this. It's a good idea cause you can make a donation instead if you don't want to buy anything.
It's terrible people are still hunting whales. I'm glad she's raising awareness.

Yeah, I think it's great that she's doing this too and I think it's awful that people are still hunting those whales as well. I was watching the video clip on the home page of her website and she was saying that she wanted to cut them out of the net, but the people capturing the whales were trying to get her with their harpoons and she said in the interview "I was kind of hoping they would get me." which shows that she feels strongly about it. I would like to donate at some point when I actually have some money

Shame on the countries who carry out this practice for ' research ' purposes, if they carry on, there will be none left to research.

I just watched the video it's quite emotional. I felt so sorry for Hayden knowing that there was nothing she could do to help those whales caught in the net. There must be something wrong with those hunters.
I think I might donate some money at some point.

Yeah I felt really sorry for her too. It must be awful to want to rescue them but can't.

I would like to donate too, once I get a job

of course whale hunting is terrible, but on the other side: people eat other animals, so why shouldn't they eat whales?

i mean, at least whales have a good life, swimming in the oceans freely,
whilst most cows and pigs and chickens have a terrible life on farms (factory farming, endless livestock transports and all that) and they are killed to be eaten, too.

just a thought.

Well, I don't think chickens, cows or pigs will ever become endangered species. I don't think it's right that humans should make another species extinct.

I agree with the point you made about other animals having a terrible life. Free range is the way to go in my opinion, if it became the norm then the price would come down. Wouldn't hurt us to eat a bit less meat anyway.

the "extincting species" is a point.

though i guess a few dozens of species are extincted every day, without anybody caring (because it's some worms or insects or something)

Two wrongs don't make a right.
or so I was repeatedly told when I was growing up...

the insects can buzz off anyway, little b*****ds.

Seriously though, all species are necessary for the eco system (except wasps and viruses - do we really need them?)

yeah, two wrongs don't make a right, that's right.

all i wanted to say:
if people care about saving whales, they should care about saving endangered species of earthworms (just an example) as well.

by the way, some kinds of tuna are in danger of being exticted as well.

Didn't realise earthworms were endangered, that's bad, what will the early bird get?

I do think it's terrible how cows etc are treated that's one of the reasons I'm a vegetarian and also walking past a slaughterhouse every day kind of makes you think differently about these things.
I also supports the World Wildlife Fund which helps other endangered species.

I try to eat free range or "outdoor reared" where possible, I'm not so much against the killing of animals for food (as long as it's done humanely), more against the bad way they're treated while they're alive.
